The Double Bubble Nebula, NGC 2371-2167 viewsPlanetary nebula in Gemini which is also known as the Peanut or Gemini nebula but looks more like a humbug sweet to me!
Discovered by William Herschel and catalogued as two separate entries. Presumably he saw the two bright spots in the inner zone and these are what he recorded as two objects. The two outer lobes, from bi-polar jets, are probably far too faint to have been what he observed. The central star has a temperature of over 100,000K.

SunJet241 viewsWhile I was waiting for the ISS this flew across.
Makes your hairs stand on end when a plane flies into the field of view of your 'scope while sun spotting.

Planetary Nebula, Abell 74 214 viewsLocated in Vulpecula, this planetary nebula is a very old, very large, very round and very faint! It took 14 hours exposure over 4 nights to drag it out of the sky background! The red elliptical fuzzy above centre (half way from the centre to the top north edge) is background galaxy PGC66471.

Good seeing from Bolton220 viewsThe high-pressure area had left us with calm air overnight, so the seeing was very good. And with bright Moonlight, the sky was not dark enough for imaging faint objects anyway. (1 votes)

C/2009 P1 Garradd on 24-Aug178 viewsDespite some wispy clouds, I managed to locate and image the comet for around an hour, taking advantage a period of thicker cloud to take my dark-frames. :-)
I've also made an animation of this sequence: see our Forum. (1 votes)

The Needle Galaxy, NGC 4565 251 viewsThe classic edge-on galaxy - hence its common name, the Needle Galaxy. It is a giant galaxy and is slightly warped - note the dust lanes forming a very shallow cross. Exposure 5 hours total.

The Hamburger Galaxy NGC 3628229 viewsThis is the faintest but largest member of Leo Triplet of galaxies – M65 and M66 are the other two. This edge-on spiral galaxy is split by a highly disturbed dust lane which is believed to have been caused by a close encounter with M66.
8 hours total exposure over 2 nights. DR

Planetary Nebula Abell 31 (Sh2-290) 505 viewsAbell 31 is perhaps the largest planetary nebula. It has a larger apparent size than the Helix Nebula yet Benedict at al. (2009) using the HST found it to be 3 times further away at around 2000 light years. They used parallax to determine its distance. Biggest or not, this ancient planetary nebula is seriously faint!!!!!
Exposure: 7 hours over 3 nights. DR

Galaxy Group NGC 3190, Hickson 44200 viewsLocated in Leo, NGC 3190 is the near edge-on spiral galaxy at the centre of galaxy group Hickson 44. Estimated to be around 80 million light years away, the other 3 main group members are the featureless elliptical, NGC 3193, a faint but striking spiral galaxy NGC 3187 and at the bottom (south) is NGC 3185, a barred spiral with an outer ring. Many background galaxies complete the scene. Exposure 5.5 hours. DR (1 votes)

Stitched Moon251 viewsThis was my 1st attempt at stitching multiple photos to create a single picture. This picture is a collection of about 20 photos stiched together using Microsoft Image Composite Editor (ICE). Each photo was taken on the 13th March from the North West of England, using a Celstron 127 SLT telescope and a Philips SPC900 webcam. The photos were captured using wxAstro Capture software in AVI format and then stacked using RegiStax. Each of the AVI files contained between 30 and 100 shots each. Unfortunately the (1 votes)
