Perseus Galaxy Cluster263 viewsLocated about 250 million light years from Earth, this large cluster is just part of the huge Perseus-Pisces Supercluster. There are at least 50 galaxies in this image with NGC 1275 (centre left) the dominant central type cD galaxy. 7 hours total exposure. DR

Holmberg 124 292 viewsHolmberg 124 is a group of four interacting and much disturbed galaxies: NGC 2805, NGC 2814, NGC 2820 and Markarian 108. They are at a distance of 90 million light years. Markarian galaxies have nuclei with excessive amounts of ultraviolet emissions compared to normal ones. Markarian 108 is the bluish blob at the right (west) end of the large edge-on galaxy. David R

Sharpless Sh2-212 with a UC HII region and YSO272 viewsSh2-212 is a spherical HII region ionised by a central cluster. However, probably the most interesting object lies near to its north-western edge where a Ultra Compact HII region is located. At its centre is a Young Stellar Object (YSO). This YSO is high mass, around 14 solar masses and still growing, high temperature, around 30,000K, and high luminosity, approximately 17,000 times that of the sun. Ref: Deharveng et al, 2008.
