iPads & the Projector

#1 Post by mschaffel » Sun Oct 21, 2012 11:43 am

Folks,
Just a few notes on using the projector with iPads. Although it seems to work quite well to present there are a few issues with screen resolutions. Hopefully this handy guide should help.

Connections

Using HDMI
The following Apple adapter can be used to connect an iPad to our projector using a Standard HDMI lead :-
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MD098 ... r?fnode=3a
The cable can also have a standard 30Pin Apple cable connected at the sametime to connect to a power source and charge the iPad during a presentation. The cable from Apple is currently £35. However you can get them from several different places including Amazon for about £15 to £20, an example of one :-

Also note:- As our project has build in speakers it will transmit any Audio over the HDMI cable from the iPad to the projector without any fuse.

If you need to borrow one of these for a presenation, let me know I have one.

Using Composite Video (RCA)
The following Apple cable can be used to connect an iPad to directly to our projector's RCA (Red, White & Yellow round ports) ports :-
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC748 ... e?fnode=3a

The cable also has a standard USB connector which can be used to power/charge the iPad during the presentation. The cable from Apple is currently £30. However you can get them from several other places including Amazon for about £10 to £15, an example of one :-
http://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-Co ... 632&sr=8-1

Again as with the HDMI cable you can use the projectors speaks for sound.

If you need to borrow one of these for a presenation, let me know I have one.

Using VGA

The following Apple adapter can be used to connect an iPad to our projector using a Standard VGA(Male) to VGA (Male) cable :-
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC552 ... r?fnode=3a

The cable doesn't have any external power connectors so you can't power/charge the iPad during the presentation. The cable from Apple is currently £25. However you can get them from several other places including Amazon for about £10 to £15, an example of one :-
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Afunta-Apple-Co ... 144&sr=8-1

This doesn't transmit sound so you won't be able to use the projectors speakers unless you use a separate cable.

Using Apple TV

This is the same as connecting it using a HDMI cable, except you connect the AppleTV to the projector and you then mirror the iPad onto the AppleTV. You'll also need both the iPad and the Apple TV connected to the same WiFi network.

Currently £100, from Apple.

Now the drawn back

You currently can't make the iPad presentation go full screen. By default it will sit in the middle of the projectors screen
I'll update later with some more details, but this link sums up the problem, and currently there dosen't seem to be anyway around it. The closest I could get was to have the iPad presentation touching the top & bottom edges, but not the sides.
