barlow lens

Post by jpinna » Sat Sep 22, 2012 6:01 pm

hi, at the moment I've got a 2x skywatcher barlow that came with the scope but thinking of upgrading it with a better one, scope is 130p F=650mm.. eye peices 25 & 10mm
been looking at.. Altair ex ed 3x..televue...astro engineering do a imagemate 4x
price wise Altair is cheapest then astro, televue.. but the astro and televue do a imagemate but can also be used for visual viewing are these any good?

Yeah, I don't like using the 10mm, but was thinking of getting something in between the two.

With it being a small scope i need the magnification

This is the Barlow which I use - an APO triplet from Parks Optical:

It cost around $70 when I bought it (in the USA) a few years ago (when the Dollar exchange rate was much more advantageous!).

But I see that Meade also do an APO triplet (i.e. 3 lenses) Barlow, and there's one on eBay at the moment:

I use an Orion Shorty Plus - make sure you get the "Plus". It is a fully APO barlow. The TV Powermates are highly recommended, just couldn't afford them at the time.

Well I've gone for a GSO x3 ed barlow and a BST variable polarizing filter as this is my first filter.
