Direct Hit

#1 Post by DRatledge » Mon Nov 02, 2015 9:11 pm

Shooting Hickson 99 last night and suffered this direct hit - right through dead centre of the galaxy cluster.

You were lucky to get anything of the galaxy cluster at all - this is all I could see from here last night:

It was very foggy!

Ross,
Was the can in front of the double glazing? That would block the view.
Bill,
Hopefully add a sequence>sigma clipping will remove the aeroplane. Faint aeroplanes seem harder for it to remove than bright ones.

At last got around to stacking the images with the direct hit - there were 10 in all which is usually enough for sigma clipping to work its magic. It did and the aeroplane has vanished.

One point I should have added - if IRIS doesn't remove the aeroplane trails try reducing sigma to 1 and increasing the number of iterations to 2. That usually works.
