If anyone can offer suggestions, we have Alec's email and 'phone details.Dear Sirs,
I have recently come across your website and I wonder whether any members of your society might be able to help me?
I am very interested in the subject of atmospheric optics, halos and higher order rainbows and have been an active observer for several years. In 2013, I was very fortunate to be able to photograph both the third and fourth order bows and the observations have been officially recognised (in the Journal of Applied Optics).

The photos have been subject to a great deal of scrutiny around the world and some heavy processing to extract the maximum amount of information. However, I feel that a couple of frames in particular have not revealed all of their secrets and that the fifth and seventh order bows may be lurking somewhere in there. What I would like to ask is do you have any members of your society with advanced image processing skills who would be willing to take a look at the images for me? Whilst my processing skills are fairly decent and I have tried to develop some new techniques, I have now reached a point where I can do no more with the image files.
I appreciate that this is not strictly an astronomical phenomenon/problem but nevertheless it maybe of interest to some of your members. I know that amateur astronomers have developed a great deal of expertise in the field of image processing over the last few years in order to tease out the faintest details in their images. I live in Farnworth and would very much like the opportunity to discuss this with someone. If you feel that you can offer me any assistance, then please do not hesitate to e-mail me or contact me by 'phone. If I can prove the existence of the seventh order in nature, it will be a world first and will generate an immense amount of international media interest. Thank you in advance.
The hunt for the seventh order bow is really intensifying amongst the atmospheric optics community and it would be a tremendous achievement if I could claim it for the UK. Currently experienced observers in Germany, the Netherlands, Finland and France as well as myself are actively searching for it and it is only a matter of time before one of them bags it!
I really do hope one of your members will be able to offer some help. If so, I will be able to go into more detail of what is required and forward the RAW's for them to work on.
For those interested in imaging and image processing with DSLR, CCD, webcam or film.
