David,
Just seen your latest picture of the Crab Nebula which is excellent I looked at Rob Gendler's image which appears to be more orange is this down to filters being used?
Peter.

Peter,
This was the image I was trying to get close to:
http://www.robgendlerastropics.com/M1-BYU.html

As might be expected with their monster telescope on a remote mountain top, then their image is a lot more detailed. Not sure about more orange - theirs seems slightly redder to me. Of course they do not need light pollution filters which we have to use here - they block orange/yellow. The give away that light pollution filters have been used is that yellow stars come out red but that is something we have to live with.

Thanks for the explanation David the image I referred to was
http://www.robgendlerastropics.com/M1NMth.jpg
This does show it in an orangy sort of colour but as you said with different filters a change of view.

David talking with Paul my son about our fledgling society I remember you were one of the first in the north to take a picture of Halleys Comet but then a professor I think from Lancashire University could not believe it,
Does my memory serve me right?

Peter,
That image was his earlier image - presumably he too decided he needed to do better!
Regarding your other point the answer is yes but I had better answer that one off line.
