NW AstroFest, 1st-3rd July

Post by rwilkinson » Wed Jun 08, 2016 7:41 am

Held annually in Runcorn, the festival brings together a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion then shares it with a keen public audience. The festival prides itself on the variety of exhibitors from clubs and societies, educational groups and traders - it is so much more than a trade show.
This year's event runs from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd July, and a couple of the sessions on the Sunday afternoon could be of interest to some of our members:

Sunday 1.00 pm: Solar imaging, with Gary Palmer (a solar imager whose images have been widely published across a variety of media around the world)
The workshop will be an Astro Photography questions and answers session, covering all types of problems imagers have with equipment setup, capturing images and processing. Using your own images, Gary will walk you through how to get the best results from your photography. In clear and understandable language this workshop is for photographers at all levels from beginner to the more advanced astro photographer.
Sunday 2.30 pm: Asteroid & comet huntung, with Nick Howes (Director of Aerolite Meteorites in Europe and former science communications at ESA)
Nick will focus his workshop on the detection, measurement and science of hunting for asteroids and comets in space. This workshop, first given at Oxford University will show even a complete novice how to hunt for space threats and then reduce the data to send off for scientific analysis.
Entry, presentation and workshop tickets for Festival 2016 will not be online this year, they will be available on the door from 10.00 am on Saturday morning. Lecture theatre tickets are limited to 100 for presentations and workshops.
