Received yesterday via our Gmail account:

Good morning,
I had Brendan Martin from The Liverpool Astronomical Society here for a site visit yesterday as he is looking to hold an Astronomical Weekend in 2016/2017 here at Southport. He suggested that I contact you to see what your initial thoughts were , if you could get back to me when you have had a chat to your members that would be much appreciated. I can then feed the response back to Brendan.

Kind Regards,
Jim Kershaw

Any comments?
I've just had a look at the Philip's Dark Skies Map, and Ainsdale is in the "yellow" area, with a limiting magnitude of 4.5 to 4.75, which is not that dark. But I recall that Dave Walker has done some photography of objects low in the West (looking across the sea) from the Fylde Coast.

But it might be a good social event for meeting up with other enthusiasts from the North-West.
If this idea has originated from the Liverpool AS, then we may hear more about it at the NW Group of Astro Societies meeting, which will take place at Ladybridge on Saturday 2-Apr?

Sounds good to me and will give us an opportunity to meet others with the same interest.
