Bolton School

The society visit started by a tour of the school. The surprise was the telescope which stood at the top of the first flight of stairs. Our guide did not know the history of the telescope but David Ratledge appeared to recognise the make/constructor. It is noticeable that the top half is missing.

Those two look dodgy characters in your last pic!
The telescope is almost certainly by AE Optics of Luton. As a teenager they made my dream telescopes! They did a stunning 12-inch fork mounted Newtonian - I can still picture it now in the catalogue. I think their mirrors were made by Jim Hysom who was one of the best for optics.
