I understand the need for practical sessions in our current set up but it would need to be structured so that it does not degenerate into a free for all meeting. It really needs to be discussed with our membership as this should not be something which can be decided among a few.

Most of the replies so far appear to indicate that some change to the monthly format might be welcome, although I realise that not all members of the BAS have replied yet.

I'm in favour of David's proposal, but appreciate that it would be detrimental to lose any members, so perhaps we could experiment with a new format for a temporary trial period and modify it if necessary.

I know the effort and hard work ,that goes into organising an interesting and enjoyable programme for all the members. However we do seem to have little time during or after meetings, to welcome and socialise with new members, to discuss with fellow members any problems that have been encountered and to share common interests.

I suppose I could be classed as an armchair astronomer now as I only go observing now and again, I'm more of a hands on at making mechanical and optics, but the idea of a change
to the format could well be what is needed, as most people seem to agree it's the meting and talking to other members that is lacking

Thanks for all your opinions. It was important we gave everyone the chance to comment before our committee meeting on the 6th April - rather than the committee just imposing something. All views will be taken into consideration.

Was a decision taken at the Committee meeting on the 6th on what format future meetings should take?

Can any member attend the Committee meetings? was not sure - thought about attending on the off chance, didn't in the end. just seems so long since I last attended a meeting and still have to wait for the 20th until the next.

Yes Ian, any keen Members are welcome to come along to our Committee meetings.

And if you look at our new provisional programme for the Autumn:
you'll see that we shall try alternating meetings, so that we have one "formal" lecture plus one more informal "activity night" every month, and see how this goes down.
