This is our first "outreach" event with the BIG Bolton Telescope - what do you bet it will be cloudy?

Yes, the mist and cloud descended so we spent the session indoors. But my Stellarium script-file allowed us to do a virtual sky-tour in addition to our PowerPoint slides.

And the BBT was a big hit - I saw the look of excited awe on the face of one youngster when he first caught sight of it!
And it was nice that amid his BBC Stargazing Live commitments, Brian Cox found time to come and try it too:

(Well actually it's his doppleganger Steve from the Lancs Wildlife Trust!)

The LWT have a fantastic facilty there (albeit with a small car-park), so I'm sure that we'll be paying them some more visits over the coming months...

If any of you would like to try it for yourselves, I've loaded a copy into our Members' Area:
http://www.boltonastro.co.uk/members2/index.php/fp/Software/Seven-Acres-sky-tour---Jan-2013/

Just download it into your Stellarium "/scripts" folder (use the Windows "Search.. for files" utility to find where your other .ssc files are), and then call it up from Stellarium's "Configuration" menu - on the "Scripts" tab.

David giving his talk to the children and adults at the Lancs Wildlife Trust. I know my interest in astronomy started by reading books, no computers then, but I bet there may be a child who came this evening who will remember the talk and may become a future astronomer.

Your Stellarium tour is brilliant Ross, really well done. Worth a look by all and a fantastic practice script for beginners.
