Tuesday (7-Aug) is Sun-day?

#1 Post by rwilkinson » Mon Aug 06, 2012 12:13 pm

There will be a solar theme to this week's meeting (which is the last in this session, before our AGM in September).
If (by some miracle) the clouds permit, then we'll be outside for some hydrogen-alpha solar observing through our Coronado 'scope, and Dave Walker will be bringing his new Lunt solar-scope to show us too.
And back indoors, Gerald will give us some of his hints and tricks for solar imaging with a DSLR, and I'll be demonstrating how to do it using a humble webcam.

Another great solar-viewing session was enjoyed by all. 8-)

As well as the Society's two Coronado 'scopes (plus our SkyMax fitted with a white-light AstroSolar filter) we also had the opportunity to try new SolarScope and Lunt instruments - many thanks to Mike and Dave for bringing them along.

Well what an evening the Sun made itself available and the views through the various telescopes were stunning. To see the prominences sunspots and filaments never ceases to amaze. The talk afterwards by Gerald using Iris and Photoshop was great and I remember when Geralds forte was in taking pictures in film when digital imaging was in it's infancy, how things have progressed.
I think this season of the BAS has been the best yet.
Peter.
