Astro Jumble -- 19 April 2011

#1 Post by cstone » Wed Apr 20, 2011 6:39 pm

Do you think the Astro Jumble was a success, I thought it was if only it was good to see everyone getting along and talking.

We even had two groups of people at one point stood around telescopes seeking and giving advice.

For those that left early you missed out on seeing Saturn through our 6" reflector. It was worth the wait. Plus It was a first for our society from as far back as I can remember joining.

Cannon 1000D SLR Camera

I choose to image with an 11" SCT Celestron in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard......

Yes I thought it was a success .... and so did Lewis judging by the amount of books and stuff he came home with !!
As well as grabbing a few bargains that will certainly come in useful in the future (thanks 'honest dave') it was great to just be able to have a chinwag with everyone and even help a few people out whilst gaining advice myself and just to get to know people in general.
So, yeah I would agree it was a sucess in every way ....
Gutted we missed saturn though

I agree with what has already been said - it was a sucess. As Dean highlighted, people were socialising and exchanging information as well as picking up some bargains, my self included, thanks Ross.

I certainly had a good chat with David Ratlidge and Len (??) regarding Celestron C8s, very useful and informative.

I was however surprised that the numbers in attendance seemed to be down, based on previous meetings.

On this occasion i did not have anything to sell and suspect that others did not due to their active interest in astronomy still being in its infancy - we just have not had the time to accumulate boxes of bits and bobs.

I think it is something the club should continue with on an anual basis.

Although we didn't have a lot of "jumble", at least I managed to clear out some of my bookshelf! ;)
But the impromptu 'scope set-up clinics were great - something we should fit in more often.
