Post subject:  Clear sky - on a Bank Holiday?

(I can't remember when that last happened!) Anyway, I took advantage of the conditions this afternoon to set up my Lunt solar scope, and had a go at imaging a solar prominence with a Philips mono webcam.

The webcam's 8-bit converter doesn't have enough dynamic range to capture the bright disk and faint prominence in one go, so I had to do two imaging runs with high & low gain settings.

Then I've spent a couple of hours playing with AutoStakkert and IRIS (including use of the CIRCLE2, DISK1 & TRANS commands, manual background subtraction and Merge function) to re-combine the data into a single image:
