Cassiopeia A might be seriously faint but it is in reach of 4 inch apos. Below is the 4-inch + Canon 60D shot used for the RGB of my LRGB image. It is amazing (to me at least) that a 4-incher can record it so clearly. A UHC filter - the narrower the better - is ideal.

Below should be the optical discovery photograph of Cass A taken with the Palomar 200 inch by Walter Baade in 1953. Shows how far we have come in 60 years when a 4 inch telescope and a Canon DSLR in Lancashire can also record it. (I have used the Palomar red and blue plates to produce a colour image)
