Hello from Ross

Post by rwilkinson » Mon Oct 26, 2009 8:03 am

I thought I'd start the ball rolling in this new Forum...

I've had an interest in astronomy from a very young age, and joined the BAS back in 1980, when I was still at school. My interest was revived around 2001, and so I re-joined the Society in 2005 when I returned to Bolton.
I was delighted to find within the group a great balance of members, from observers, astrophotographers and telescope-makers with decades of experience, to relative newcomers and absolute beginners. We're a friendly bunch, and I hope that this Forum will help us further to share our expertise and learn from each other.

We have also had some excellent talks from professional astronomers (including Prof.s Colin Pillinger and Ian Morrison), which keep us up-to-date with the very latest advances in this rapidly-changing science.

And I've really enjoyed joining the Society's annual pilgrimages to the Equinox Star-camp in Norfolk: spending a weekend on a camp-site full of telescopes and enthusiastic amateur astronomers is a treat not to be missed!
