This comet was first discovered by C W Hergenrother on CCD images obtained by Timothy Spahr in November 1998 in the course of the Catalina Sky Survey, and was originally designated 1998 W2. It was recovered by David Herald on images taken with his 0.36m f4 SC reflector on 2005 July 4 & 5 (0.27 days ahead of the prediction on MPC 45658). Following recovery it was numbered 168.

In October 2012 it underwent an outburst, bringing it up to 10th magnitude.
Last night I managed to detect it twice - once from my back garden, and simulaneously using the Bradford Robotic Telescope in Tenerife!
