Having seen NASA's simulation of their Curiosity probe's landing sequence (described by one of the JPL controllers as "seven minutes of terror") at our meeting back in April, I've just been watching the live video stream from JPL as it safely completed its powered descent into Gale Crater - what an achievement!

Yes we all got up early this morning to watch NASA tv, and held our breath while curiosity made its decent to the surface..... And then send the first images back. Simply amazing! I can now hear everyone saying "sky crane .... What a great idea !" looking forward to the decent video coming soon ......
