Saturn opposition

#1 Post by rwilkinson » Mon Apr 23, 2012 7:36 am

I forgot to mention at the end of last week's talk that Saturn is currently at opposition (on 15-Apr to be precise). This means that we are directly in line between it and the Sun, so it's lit full-on and at its brightest. It appears due South at midnight (=1am BST), but only gets to about 29 degrees above our horizon.
The ring-plane is now opening out again (having been edge-on to us a couple of years back), so it's becoming more spectacular.

I was just setting up to take some images of it last night, when the cloud-bank came over!
But there are a few recent pictures from other imagers in our Gallery.
